From Dreamer to Startup Founder

Newsletter

Hey Friends!

I was talking to my new friend from X (Twitter) the other day.

He was interested in my story as a “start-up founder” and wanted to ask me a few questions about it.

In preparation for the meeting, I started to reflect on my journey.

To be honest, I was astounded at our progress. I never thought we would make it this far.

It all started when…

My friend came to me with an idea: A social calendar that allowed people to make group plans and find events in their city.

I discounted it immediately. “It’s a good idea”, I said, “but we can’t build an app. We’ve never done it before!

So the idea wilted, but it didn’t die…

A few months later, he sprung it on me again.

But this time something was different. Something deep inside me knew this was my first opportunity.

I would take my first steps, regardless of the outcome.

So…It started slow. But it started.

We made wireframes for how we wanted the app to look.

Then, a functional mockup.

I tried to build the product myself (and failed miserably).

But then more started to come…

We (legally) formed our first company.

We launched a landing page explaining our app… it landed 150 sign-ups in a week! We became invigorated from realizing our product could work.

But then we got stuck.

We had a vision, but no way to get a product into the market.

Then, an old friend reached out to us. He told us that he could help build the product if we needed it.

And we needed it…

After 2 months of negotiations, I’m proud to announce that we’ve signed a development team and increased our team size by 150%. (I feel like Iron Man assembling the Avengers!)

After months of flailing around, trying to keep our heads above water, everything seems to be falling into place. Now I’m more confident to lean into the unknown and venture into uncharted territories. I know we will figure it out, regardless of the circumstances.

Here’s my message to you… It is going to be scary, but you have to start. Build skills, and try different experiences. It’s the only way to know what you’re capable of.

If you wait for the perfect time, it will never come.

Thanks for reading,

Hope you have a great weekend.

I’ve recommended this book before and will again! Naval has become one of my personal heroes. His ideas on wealth and happiness are timeless. Check out my in-depth breakdown of the book here!

🎶 Song: “Do Not Disturb” by Drake

I saw Drizzy this week and had to throw it back to my favorite song of all time from him. Unfortunately, he didn’t play it at the concert. But it’s still an all-time greatest sleeper hit!

📕 Long-Term Lifting

People don’t take care of their bodies until it’s too late. This is why 48% of yearly deaths are “preventable.” The good news is that the solution is easier than you think. If you’re ready to take your health seriously, download my newest e-book (it’s free!)
