Hey friends,
I’m currently running a personal experiment.
For my whole life, or ever since I can remember, I’ve had trouble with energy.
I would constantly fall asleep in class & sports film rooms. During my first year of college, I would take about 4 naps a day, each 10-20 minutes.
I was so tired all the time.
My energy has increased since then, but it could still be better.
Here is my 3.5-step plan to never be tired again.
1) Sunlight in the Morning
Our bodies are designed to wake up when the sun rises.
When light gets into your eyes, your body knows to get ready for the day. Try getting outside within an hour of waking up.
Anywhere between 10-25 minutes of sunlight is ideal.
Please don’t stare directly into the sun.
2) Cold Showers
Think of how you feel after drinking a cup of coffee…
Now - 7x that feeling.
That is the alertness you get from a 3 min cold shower.
Just try it once.
Then, try it once… again.
3) Exercise (Movement)
A body at rest stays at rest.
If you don’t move at all during the day, your mind won’t either.
It can be walking, stretching, lifting, biking, etc. Find what works best for you.
I’ve been starting off my day with Sahil Bloom’s 5-5-5-30 method.
- 5 Push Ups
- 5 Lunges
- 5 Squats
- 30 Second Plank
This puts me in a great spot to start my day, then I go to the gym 3-4 hours after waking.
3.5) Purpose
This isn’t a biological hack per se. But, it is an underlying mechanism for pushing through hardships. Understanding ‘Why’ we are doing something will help us get through times of low energy.
For a lot of parents, their ‘Why’ is the need to support their family.
Take a minute to pin down your purpose in life. It doesn’t have to be perfect and you can change it at any time.
