Hey Friend,
A few months ago, I went to the best concert I’ve ever been to.
The music blasted through the speakers behind me.
Stage lights flew around the tiny venue, filling the space with a rainbow of colors.
The crowd stood shoulder to shoulder, immersed in the music.
On stage was my new favorite band.
And they were killing it.
The concert went on for 45 minutes, but nobody wanted it to end.
As they played their finale, the crowd sang along at the top of their lungs.
Nothing else mattered.
As the band walked off stage, cheers erupted.
Then the crowd shuffled out to the next room. A small bar.
My friends and I gathered around and reminisced about the show we just saw.
But then, a curtain in the back of the bar started to flutter.
And from backstage, the band started to come out.
In their hands were guitar cases, drum sets, and microphones.
The band wasn’t well known yet, so people paid them no mind.
But I had to meet them.
I rushed over to the drummer and told him I loved their music and was a huge fan of their latest album.
We talked for a few minutes.
He told me about their current tour and the origins of the band.
But in the middle of the conversation, someone from across the bar shouted his name.
And in a flash, he was gone.
My friends and I started talking again about how great the show was.
But then the unthinkable happened.
The drummer came from backstage and said, “Thanks for coming to the show, Rocky. I hope to see you at the next one!”
Damn. I was star-struck.
He remembered my name…
My friends sat with their mouths open as I turned back to them with a huge smile on my face.
From that day on, I was a die-hard fan.
He didn’t have to come back out to say bye to me, much less remember my name.
But he did it anyway.
Now you don’t have to be in a band…
But there’re people you care about. Or maybe customers you want to build relationships with.
So, take a lesson from his book.
Don’t just focus on the big picture...
Get great at doing the little things.
Thanks for reading,
Stay curious, my friends!
