I wouldn’t be surprised if I have played well over 10,000 hours of video games in my life.
From RPGs, sports games & Call of Duty - I’ve played it all.
But, I have begun to invest my time in a new game lately.
One that I have found much more enjoyable than anything I’ve played before.
The game of life.
🎮 Make Life a (Video) Game
You come into this world with nothing. No experience, and no knowledge. Then, you get the chance to learn and level yourself up. After a while, you have more abilities & can take on more difficult foes. Seems like a game to me.
📶 Level Yourself Up
The best part of a video game is leveling up. It allows us to see progress in the game, and use new armor, weapons, etc. The same goes for life. You become someone new when you learn new ideas.
Increasing your level in real life can be reading, studying, or listening to podcasts. These are a great place to start.
Yet if they are not paired with action - putting your knowledge into practice, you will stay the same. I have fallen into this trap before, make sure to sure this strategy wisely.
⛔️ Take Risks
In video games, if you die, you can try again. Now you have more knowledge of what you shouldn’t do. More insights on what path to take to achieve your goal.
Same with life. When you fail, you learn what not to do. You walk away with a better understanding of how to approach a situation & what results it will yield.
Yet in life, we are less likely to take risks. We're scared to “die.” Not physical death. Rather, the death of who we think we are and what we think we can do. Holding on to your past self can negate you from leveling up.
⏳ Put in the Hours
What if when we started a video game, we could immediately beat the final boss? It would take away the joy of seeing your character progress. We can go through a character's story in a few hours. Life is different. It’s the same concept, but much more time is needed.
When starting a new venture in life, you begin on level 1.
If you try to play above your level, you are going to get frustrated at why you’re not doing well. Be careful not to compare yourself to others that have been playing the game much longer than you.
